It all depends on the year make and model of the vehicle some can be done in 4 to 5 hours!
Labor around 500.00 plus cost to repair head or replacement, plus gasket set (100.00-give or take)
A head gasket set and new head bolts.
the only way oil will get in the coolent is a bad head gasket or a crack in the head.
Head Gasket itself is the same from 1987-1996 so it doesn't matter. Just got gasket set for the truck.
Your gonna have some work in front of you because you have to take off the head that covers the cylinders just to get to the gasket. You have to take off the valve cover the the bolts that hold the head on, you may have to get new bolts to put in though, ask the nearest parts store.
the whole set.
If you are lucky, then the head gasket is blown. If you are not lucky, the engine block or cylinder head is cracked.
For sure, replace ALL the gaskets involved. When you purchase, ask for a head gasket set and you will get all the gaskets that are used.
I know for a 93 BMW 325is 2.5L DOHC 6chy. You might as well just go a head and buy the head gasket set it runs about 200$ at autozone. It comes with valve cover gasket, valve stem seals, and head gasket. But its also recommended to replace the cylinder head bolts also.
water mixed in oil, check dipstick, looks milky in color. quick overheating. visible leaks around head gasket.
yes, you should replace ALL gaskets that you come across. When you release pressure on a gasket, the seal has now been lifted. You need to place all new gaskets so they can set and create a new seal. if you are just doing the head gasket, not getting the head surfaced or doing any other work- then getting the head gasket and any others piece by piece will be more economical- the head set will include intake/exhaust manifolds, valve cover, valve stem seals, etc... the valve cover gasket can be re-used if in good condition (not hardened), and you can pull the head on the d-series motor with intake and exhaust manifolds attached
As with any hed gasket problem as long as you get to the problem early enough as to not have any further major damage happen due to driving/running the vehicle too long after the head gasket blows I would say no to a complete engine rebiuld. Oil must be drained and new oil filter replaced, cylinder head must be sent out whiile you are at it send out the good head too and have the magnafluxed for cracks, have the engine to head surface checked for cracks as well, replace as needed, install cylinder head gasket and intake gasket set retorque and or replace head bolts as per manufacturers specs....happy motoring.
