It takes as long as it takes. There is no time limit set by statute. In many states all parties involved in the petitioners original offense must be contacted and asked for their input on whether the expungement should be granted or not, and occasionally this takes court hearings to iron out. It is NOT a simple or easy process
*There is also something called Expedited Criminal Database Update(ECDU), which is sometimes needed if you want your expungement to take the effect immediately(sometimes it takes up to a year for them to update your record).

∙ 13y agoThere is no statutory time limit. "It takes as long as it takes." A judge must research and consider the request and take into account all the ramifications of the offense and the offender. It may even involve hearing testimony on the request from the original victim(s), the arresting officer, and the prosecutor. All this takes time; how much time can't be predicted.
