It takes approximately three years to obtain a law degree. However as you mention you are afraid of the huge time commitment, I wouldn't encourage you to pursue law school because to even get into law school, you must have a bachelors degree which can take up to 4 years. To calculate, you are looking at seven years to obtain the law degree.

In London, England, it typically takes three years to earn an undergraduate law degree (LLB) and an additional year or two for a postgraduate law degree (LLM) or professional qualifications like the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC). Overall, it can take around four to five years to complete all the necessary requirements to become a qualified lawyer in London.

A standard degree takes 3 years. This will be an LLB (hons) degree, make sure it contains the elements to make it a qualifying law degree if you wish to practice (off the top of my head i believe it is currently criminal law, tort, contract, EU law, constitutional law, land law and equity).

If you already have a UK degree many universities will offer a one year Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) course that will give you a qualifying law degree.

If you wish to practice law after this there are two routes, solicitor or barrister.

For a solicitor you must take the Legal Practice Course (LPC) which takes 1 year full-time and 2 part-time. After this you must find a training contract with a firm. This lasts 2 years in which you are paid as a trainee solicitor. Afterwards you will be fully qualified.

For barrister it is a little different, and im not 100% sure on the route. You need to take the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) and enrol with one of the Inns in London. After this their is a 2 year pupilage period before you are fully qualified.

Hope this helped.
