The average is 8 hours, some people require 10 hours and there is approximately 35% that only need six hours (I'm one of those people.) It depends if you have REM sleep (deep sleep) and if you do then even six hours is enough for many people. If you are a lighter sleeper then 8 - 10 hours is a must. Children from 1-19 need at least 10 hours of sleep each day.

It depends on how tired one is or if the person suffers from a disease called, 'Narcolepsy' (where they can nod off at any given time.) Your body and brain is geared to let you know how long you should sleep. The average person should have at least 8 hours of sleep, but some people such as myself only need 6 hours of sleep. The elderly take small naps and don't require to sleep as long at one time. This could also be caused from lack of the usual routine they once had when younger and a more sedate way of life.

normally many people say about 8 hours. I try to sleep atleast 8 hours too! It doen't work i say you should sleep about 8 hours everyday but if you want to have a goodnight sleep 10-12 hours will be Great!
