It should take you about a hour and a half if you know what you are doing that about how long it took me and my dad to change the one on his girlfriends truck. you will need a spark plug wrench 8mm socket and/or a Philip screw driver. Just putting this out there it is very hard to see to line the screws up to put the distributor cap back on and with the new rotors you have to push them down until they click or snap on. don't put too much pressure on the roter when you are putting it in or else it Will break.

How long does it take to replace a distributor cap?

Not long, but be sure to label the plug wires, and mark the position of the old cap before replacing it. Note you should also replace the rotor as well, making sure to install the new rotor in the same position as the old.

How do you change a distributor on a 1987 Mercury Marquis?

First mark the #1 cylinder position. Then mark exact position of rotor on distributor. Pull distributor out. Reach down with long screwdriver to oil pump shaft turn backwards about 6 degrees then you can drop the distributor back in. Making sure rotor aligns with the exact mark as taken out. Can a distributor be one notch off and still work as long as the number one wire goes where the rotor is pointing?

If you can find the mark with a timing light, yes.

How do you change distributor on Toyota previa?

Remove the heatshield (kind of triangle shape w/ 3 12mm bolts, slide it rearward out of the way. Label each of the 5 wires to ensure correct installation later. Pull out the locking tab of the boot & unlock it from the cap. Then gently pull the wire out of the cap holding the gasket part, not the wire itself to protect it. Use a 7mm socket & long extension to remove 3 bolts securing the cap and remove it. Use a scewdriver to remove 2 screws atop of the rotor & pull it straight out. Save the screws for installation of the new rotor. Install new rotor, cap, & 5 old wires in reverse order. Note that there's an O-ring between distributor & cap to seal out moisture; replace it if damaged. Also if oil is found inside the distributor, it's shaft's O-ring has failed. The whole distributor needs to be remove to replace this shaft's O-ring.

Why does your Dodge Intrepid shakes when i brake?

Warped rotor(s), due to too much hard braking (or braking for too long, like when going downhill). You can replace them or get them shaved so they are flat again. Break sooner and not as hard will prevent them from overheating, which causes them to warp.

Is it easy to replace a distributor cap and the rotor on a 1992 Geo Prizm or should a professional do it?

Yes very easy, Just don't get the plug wires mixed up. Take it one wire at a time. Start with #1 which is listed on the cap. The rotor just pulls off and plugs back on. Twist until it goes into the slot. as long as you are careful and remember exactly how each wire and rotor position was before you take it apart - it is a no brainer. The rotor has a small wedge/cutout that ahs to sit correctly on the shaft. The wires have to be pushed well into the ditributor - that's it.

How do you install distributor drive on 1600 bug?

The distributor drive is a little shaft with a gear on the end of it that meshes with a gear on the crankshaft. Your first task is to be sure there's not one in there already. Stick your distributor in the hole where it goes, shove it in as far as it will go, and turn the rotor. If it meshes with something in there, you've got a distributor drive. Tighten the distributor clamp after you static-time the engine, and be happy. If you DON'T have one... remove the right-side valve cover. Turn the engine over with a wrench until number 1 cylinder (the one to the front of the car) is in firing position--both valves closed. Get a distributor drive, grease it up (it probably won't go in unless you do), and put it in the hole where it goes. Don't stick it in all the way. Put a rotor in your distributor, mesh the end of the distributor shaft with the distributor driveshaft--it only fits one way--and turn the rotor until the long, narrow end, which is where the fire comes from, is pointing at you. Now push the distributor down until it stops. If you have lived a clean life, the teeth on the distributor drive meshed with the teeth on the crank, and the distributor bottomed out like it was supposed to. No one gets that lucky, so just move the rotor back and forth a little and it will drop right in.

Why is a 1992 Colt 200E still stalling after the distributor cap rotor fuel filter air filter plugs plug wires changed throttle body cleaned and the fuel injectors have been purged?

I have to answer this myself. I had a diagnostic test at a Dodge dealership. It took them a long time to find the fault, but it was in the distributor itself. Rather than pay 800 dollars, I got an auto wrecker employee to get a used distributor and he replaced it for only 120 dollars including parts and labor. Now my Colt doesn't stall anymore.

How long does it take to replace brake pads and rotor?

It will take approximately 15 minutes, per wheel, for an experience mechanic to change the brake pads and the rotor. A novice mechanic, doing the job in their driveway, will take considerably longer.
