Head gaskets are supposed to last the life of the engine. There is no "care" specific to head gaskets.
There are sporadic reports of head gaskets blowing when the head bolts strip out of the aluminum block. It seems the only long term repair is to replace the short block.
it depends on the person. for me as long as their are no other problems along the way and nothing has to be machined about 5 to 6 hours.
Minimum rate I have been quoted: $255.00, parts & labor. Check in your area code - mine is 714 (Orange County, CA, not the cheapest place for auto mechanics, but not as expensive as NYC!). And as long as you are replacing head gaskets, it only makes sense to replace hoses, too, as long as things are coming apart and going together in the same areas of the vehicle.
Head gaskets seal the clyinder head to the block. Head gaskets usually blow when the vehicle has been run too hot for too long. Heat warps the cylinder head and gasket quits sealing, known as a blown head gasket. There are other reason for blowing a head gasket, but this one of the most common reasons.
Changing a head gasket (or in your case, gaskets) is a long process. If you have to ask this question, then you probably do not have the tools and knowledge to complete the task. A service manual would be necessary for you to have the correct procedure and torque specifications.
Yes you should replace the thermostat now to insure trouble free operation afterwards, actually as long as the main bearings were not damaged from the intake leak, you should also replace the head gaskets at this time, use only felpro gaskets and you will have troublefree performance for years to come. These are good torquey engines, gm just went cheap on the gaskets when new
Depending with the experience and the expertise of the mechanic. it may take up to 1 hour to replace 2006 Pontiac L Montana.

you don't Not unless you really know what your doing. You would have to pull your engine out to replace both heads. To have a mechanic do it, it would cost upwards of 1,400 to 3,000 dollars because of the work and how long it takes to pull An engine out and replace the heads and put it back together and into the car again I suggest you start saving up ;)
If it was driver with a blown head gasket for a long period of time you can bet it needs an overhaul. If however it was not, then new head gaskets may be all it needs.
