The way a microwave oven operates is that it sends out micro waves (thus the name microwave) that excite the water particles in an object and generate friction, resulting in heat. So technically, the microwave itself doesn't get hot, merely the object in which the micro waves are being projected on.

If you are heating it over 10 minutes you should not put it in the microwave,
any lower should be fine.
