The sun doesn't orbit the earth.

The earth and sun both orbit their common center of mass ... the place where the

pivot would have to be if the sun and earth were on opposite ends of a see-saw.

Since the sun's mass is several million times the earth's mass, that point is deep

inside the sun, so it looks essentially as if the earth is simply orbiting the sun.

One complete circuit takes roughly 365.24 days. That's the period of time that

knowledgeable experts refer to as one "year".
