Apple trees are highly variable, and seldom can one reproduce the parent variety from seed. Commercial trees are almost always grown from a grafted cutting, and this additionally confers the ability to have a dwarf tree or a full growing variety at will. A newly grafted tree will take at least three years before it comes into production.
