August 21, 2017 While there is a total solar eclipse in the year 2017, the path of totality will NOT pass over the state of Connecticut. The Moon will block out about 75% of the sun here in the North East. If you wish to see this total solar eclipse, and experience the longest portion of Totality of 2min 40 seconds then you MUST travel to Christian County, Kentucky just northwest of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The last total solar eclipse that was visible in the state of Connecticut was January 1, 1925...the next total solar eclipse to be visible in the state will occur on May 1, 2079 and if you happen to miss this eclipse your next viewing will not occur until April 14 2200 If you happen to miss the eclipse of August 21, 2017 your next chance will be April 8, 2024. The longest portion of totatlity occurs in Nazas, Durango, Mexico and darkenss will last for 4min 28 seconds. However to see the eclipse of 2024 you will have to travel to New York, Niagra Falls...to experience Totality, because in CT only 85 to 90% of the sun will be blocked by the moon.
