pretty much since the start when Christopher Columbus founded it in the 1400s
ever since then Haiti has been in plenty of oppression
Haiti at it's time had one of the harshest slave system known to man. Because the slave population outnumbered their masters, they introduced harsh measures that can not be told in polite societies. Like with anywhere in the world, with oppression comes rebellion, the human desire to survive and be free will cannot be oppressed for so long without a desire to be free. Thus Haiti desired independence and fought valiantly against a better equipped French army and still won.
Haiti
The slave revolt in Haiti, known as the Haitian Revolution, resulted in the establishment of Haiti as the first independent Black republic in 1804, following a successful uprising against French colonial rule. The revolution led to the abolition of slavery in the country and inspired other liberation movements in the Americas. However, Haiti faced significant economic and diplomatic challenges afterward, including a heavy indemnity imposed by France, which hindered its development for decades. The revolution remains a symbol of resistance against oppression and colonialism.
Toussaint Louverture led the Haitian Revolution, which ultimately resulted in the liberation of Haiti from French colonial rule. Louverture played a key role in leading the enslaved people of Haiti in a successful rebellion against the French, ultimately establishing Haiti as an independent nation in 1804. Louverture's leadership and military tactics were instrumental in securing Haiti's freedom from colonial oppression.
