There's a comment on GeekPress (url: http://www.geekpress.com/2007_07_monthly.html) about the long reentry blackout. It quotes Gene Kranz, the Flight director to the effect that the re-entry path for Apollo 13 was longer and shallower than normal, thus extending the re-entry blackout.
