Whatever you do, don't store butternut squash in a broken/unplugged refrigerator outdoors for 9 months and then serve it to your husband without telling him. If the temperature is maintained at around 60-65 degrees and if the squash is first washed and then dipped in a solution of 1 tablespoon of household bleach to 1 gallon of water before storing, and if the skin shows no fungi/mold on the skin after storage, I would give that a try.

That would be about 2 cups.
It takes 245 bottles of squash to make 4 cups cooked. I tested it out to make sure my hypothesis was correct, and it was.

The yellow squash is a 'summer' squash and is perishable. Butternut is a 'winter' squash and can withstand unrefrigerated storage.
It is not good practice to keep cooked meats frozen for long, but I'd say you should be fine up to a week or 2.
