No, you can only crochet with a crochet hook. Answer Crochet is done with crochet hooks (they come in many sizes) not knitting neeldes. But you can also use your fingers (finger crochet) or there is also some thing called Knooking which uses a tool that has a crochet hook on one end and a knitting needle point on the other.
There are about 6 basic crochet stitches them being: ch~chain stitch sc~single crochet dc~double crochet hdc~half double crochet treble ss~slip stitch most patterns will use one of these stitches or a combo of some of them. .
What I found in my research about the longest crocheted chain stitch is that done by Ria van der Honing completed a 38 mile long chain. This was turned in to Guinness World Records on 14th July 1986.I also found a woman, Anne Vanier-drüssel, who has recently (approx Dec 2008) finished a hand chained (didn't use a crochet hook, so her chains were approx 6in long), a 130 km (426,509 ft or approx 81 mile), long chain stitched green yarn length. I have added links to her story.I'm not sure if Guinness World Records has certified the Record for Anne or not. I couldn't verify this for sure, and I don't have their book, to check out this fact.

That is a long stitch. Just count 4 rows down and insert your hook in the stitch in line with the stitch on your present row but on the row 4 rows down. You will have to work very loosely and pull up your golden loop so that your stitches on the present row remain even and your work doesn't pull in.
