Sunrise at the South Pole is on about the 21st of September every year. Sunset is on about the 22nd of March the following year. The reverse is the case at the North Pole. So a polar day (period of daylight) is about 6 months and a polar night is also about 6 months.

It ranges from the endless night of winter, to the non-existent night in summer.

This depends on how far north (or south) you are, at the polar circles there is only one day the sun does not rise - this is on the Winter Solstice, however the polar night can last up to over a month only 150 miles inside the polar circle, to six months of perpetual night right at the poles in winter.

On summer solstice, the arctic circle is in daylight all day and the antarctic circle has nighttime. On Winter solstice, the arctic circle has night all day long and the antarctic circle his daylight all day long. In general, the further north you go, the more sun there is in the Summer and the less sun in the Winter.
