the dsi xl's battery life depends on how bright the light is because the light is brighter than all of the other ds systems before it, so it takes up a whole lot of energy.
Minimum brightness: battery lasts 13-17 hours
Maximum brightness: battery lasts 4-5 hours
The 3DS battery last 2.5 hours When on 3d and max brightness and playing games. it lasts 2.5-5 hours on 3DS software and 5-8 hours on DS software. good thing is that there is the 3DS Power Pak + made, which makes the battery last 2 times longer. I've heard that a different battery extender has been made which extends the 3DS battery life 3 times longer.

You might have not charged it and its out of battery's
The DSi, and any other Nintendo handheld, will charge as long as it is plugged in and receiving power. The system does not have to be on to charge. The DSi can charge a dead battery to full in about 3 hours.
The Nintendo dsi XL hasn't really been out for that long, just under a year.
yea you can the battery just takes longer to charge. i wouldn't recommend doing it on a regular basis though because it can mess up your battery
No because it freezes
