For Navy Enlisteds, minimum is 2yrs (hardly worth it) for swabbies, 4 years for most general rates, and 6 years for Advanced rates to cover the 2 years of training you usually require before you ever see your first duty station.

For Officers, it's 3-5 years or more depending on the Officer's specialty (e.g., Nuclear Engineering) and prior education/training/service time, if any.

The shortest enlistment period in the US Navy is typically four years for active duty service. However, there may be options for shorter enlistment periods, such as two years, for specific job specialties or under special circumstances. It is recommended to contact a Navy recruiter for more information on available options.

Their prior service will decide that. If they were discharged with an Honorable Discharge, there should be no issue, as long as they are still healthy. There is usually a comment on the DD214 that references re-enlistment status.

Can bankruptcy hinder you in joining the navy reserves?

Bankruptcy won't hinder your enlistment, but COULD limit what you do in the Navy, since credit history is one of the elements of security clearance investigations. How long ago the bankruptcy was filed, and current financial responsibility can improve your chances of at least a Secret clearance, needed for many Navy jobs.

When you finish your Navy enlistment can you then enlist in the Marines?

Pending on how old you are, you should be able to. Might wanna get online and find the nearest Navy recruiters office around you and call them. If anything you might need a waiver from MEPS but i dont think that would be a problem if you were a Marine. Army...might be hard, but Marine...yeah you're set, you're too valuable to the government to not let you re-enlist.
