That depends, but you will always need to take two trains. First you will need to take a national train to Tunes. If you take the fastest one (Alfa), it will take about 2h30. If you take the slowest one (Intercities), it will take around 3 hours, more or less. There are everyday two Alfa from Lisbon to the Algarve, one in the morning, another in the afternoon/night. Intercities there are three daily connections from Lisbon to the Algarve.

Then in Tunes, you will need to take the Algarve regional train. Lagos is the last station of the line, to the west. From Tunes to Lagos, it takes about 53 minutes to 1 hour. Take also some time between the two connections, 10 minutes or so. Overall, both will take more than 3 and half hours, Intercities close to 4 hours.

It is possible to travel from London to Madrid in one day, but only just.

• Leave London St Pancras at 09:17, arriving Paris Nord 12:47. Cross Paris by metro or taxi to the Gare de Lyon.
• Leave Paris Gare de Lyon at 14:07 daily and arriving Figures Vilafant station at 19:40.
• At Figueres, board the train departing Figueres at 19:55 and arriving at Madrid Atocha at 00:02.

It is also possible to take a later train to connect with the overnight train from Paris to Madrid.
