Sunrise at the South Pole is on about the 21st of September every year. Sunset is on about the 22nd of March the following year. The reverse is the case at the North Pole. So a polar day (period of daylight) is about 6 months and a polar night is also about 6 months.
It ranges from the endless night of winter, to the non-existent night in summer.
This depends on how far north (or south) you are, at the polar circles there is only one day the sun does not rise - this is on the Winter Solstice, however the polar night can last up to over a month only 150 miles inside the polar circle, to six months of perpetual night right at the poles in winter.
On summer solstice, the arctic circle is in daylight all day and the antarctic circle has nighttime. On Winter solstice, the arctic circle has night all day long and the antarctic circle his daylight all day long. In general, the further north you go, the more sun there is in the Summer and the less sun in the Winter.
During winter, it is dark for 24 hours of the day. During summer, particularly at the summer solstice, it will be light for 24 hours of the day.
The cold weather lasts all year.

During summer, the North Pole is pointed toward the Sun, During winter, the North Pole is pointed away from the Sun. The South Pole points in the opposite direction from the North Pole, so that when it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Spring and fall follow this same pattern.
The winter solstice
The seasons at the poles are spring, summer, fall and winter. Because the poles are in different hemispheres, the seasons are opposite. The dates that the seasons change is the same at both poles. For example, when it is winter at the South Pole, it's summer at the North Pole.

North pole and South pole
Frosty went to the North Pole because the North Pole is the only place where Frosty will never melt. However in the North Pole, it's considered winter all year long, even when it's summer in other parts of the world, and even when it's winter in other parts of the world.
United States is a part of the Northern Hemisphere. The North Pole is technically somewhere in the Arctic.
