I assure you that I pulled the info from official, government websites. {Answer effective on April 30, 2008 & subject to change without warning.} For US passport holders travelling to: UK: Passport valid for whole period of the visit to the UK. No visa required unless planning to stay more than 6 months. Germany: Passport valid for at least three months beyond length of stay required by all. {Except: EU nationals, and nationals of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, holding a valid national ID card. This might be helpful for dual-national citizens.} No visa required unless planning to stay more than 90 days. Other countries in the Schengen Agreement area have the same requirements as Germany (France, Netherlands, Austria, etc.) Additionally, passports are checked when LEAVING the Schengen Agreement area and without a valid entry stamp you will be required to document your travels and time in-country(s), and be subject to penalty payments upon departure. Failure to pay penalties on-the-spot leave you liable to arrest.
