This really depends on what kind of dog you have. There is a class of dog called "sight hounds". Greyhounds are in this class. They need a lot of room to run. At an extreme, there are some sight hounds that their owners run for a couple miles tied behind a car. But you have to be very careful doing this. Some dogs only need to be let out in the yard a couple times a day to run around a bit. Toys, pugs, and poms come to mind.
A dog is like a human. Human who don't run often aren't going to run for a long time. Something for dogs. If you have a fat dog then he isn't going to run long. If your dog runs with you everyday and your dog is fit, then he may run for a long time. All depends if he/she is fit. If you want to run with your dog for a long time, train him/she for it.

Walking or going to a dog park so he/she can cut loose and run.
You should run if a dog decides to chase you. If you can climb on to anything then you should try to do so. Scream for help and cover your face and neck if the dog catches you.
You should walk your dog for as long as the dog wants to be walked for. Your dog needs plenty of exercise.
The Humane Society of the U.S suggests a run should be 3 feet wide, 10 feet long, and 6 feet high, with the length increasing should the dog be over 100 pounds. Multiplying the pets length by five is also a useful means of measuring a run.
as long as possible
If you own a dog with long hair then you should use a brush with long bristles or if you have a dog with short hair then you should use short bristle brushes to brush them.
