Dried herbs will last from 6 months up to three years.
Spices however can last much longer, especially if they are not ground.
Whole black pepper or whole seeds used as spice, will always last longer than the ground up varieties.
As time passes, spices will become less potent. There are no problems using 15 year old Black Pepper, but nothing tastes and smells quite like freshly ground fresh Black Peppers.

It is very difficult to maintain a good quality and flavor in fresh spices for more than a few days. They can be very costly. Dried can be stored for a long time. They can be measured exactly. And have better flavor.
Try a spice shop or frozen foods specialist shop. Spices frozen or dried are not as good as fresh spices themselves. Processing tends to alter the flavour of spices
