Well, that depends what kind of ear piercing it was. If it was a normal ear piercing, on the lobe of the ear, then the original earring needs to stay in for 8 weeks and needs to be cleaned with a special solution, usually given by your piercer, a few times a day.
However, if it was a cartilage piercing, the ones that are up higher on the ear where it curves, the earring needs to stay in for 16 weeks and cleaned regularly.
If it becomes infected or you are unsure about what to do, contact the person or place who pierced your ear(s) and they will tell you what to do from there. Or, if you are more worried about it, you can contact a local clinic to ask about it.

yes they can still close but only if you leave your earing's out for a long period of time i would not leave them out over night until it has at least been 7-8 weeks i got my ears pierced last year so i hope i could help

I wouldn't, usually it is encouraged to keep the stud in for 2 months, turn it twice a day, and to keep it clean. Taking it out would cause the hole to heal quickly, repairing the cut in the skin. So when you put it back in it would make it more painful because you have to break through healing skin and tissue. If you wait for the hole to heal with the earing in still in and after two months, it will make it painless to take in and out freely. Just make sure to not leave it out for long periods of time.

First, you should never skip a gauge when your trying to make them bigger. Only go up one size every time. You probably tore the hole. If you keep it clean and take care of it like you would when you first get something pierced it should heal but may have some scarring that could make it more difficult to gauge because scar tissue is different from skin and regular tissue. If it gets infected you need to go see a doctor.
