I did it many years ago in a beatle Volkswagen. My wife and I left Nairobi at 6 am and it took us almost 12 hours.
We had a flat in the middle of the jungle and it took me less than 5 min to change the tire.
I remember telling my wife if you see anything moving let me know.
We stopped at an oases and had the flat fixed. We arrive in Mombassa at 6 pm and started looking for a hotel. We ended up at the Oceanic.
We left the rental car there a flew back to Nairobi.
If your going to try it be sure the car is in good condition, full of gas and has a
spare tire that you know how to change. You will see many animals on the way.
Also tell someone of your plans just in case something happens.
It would be wise to book your hotel in advance of arriving in Mombassa.
Bring some water and food.
Best wishes...
