We have a 2001 series II, 3.8L. It has never been maintained other than oil changes regularily. Other than that only looked at if something was wrong. The engine now has 200,000+ and still running strong. We do have oil leak, and it's starting to smell hot but never let us down so far. Love it. We also get nearly 30 MPG.
Modern American made engines can run several hundred thousand miles if properly maintained. Follow the manufacturers specifications and use high quality lubricants, coolants and replacement components and your Buick and other American cars will last a long time.
