According to an interesting theology invented in 1830 by John Nelson Darby, a British evangelical preacher and founder of the Plymouth Brethren, there will be a 'Rapture' in which Christians will be taken bodily up into heaven, followed by a 'Tribulation' that lasts seven years. The last three and a half of the seven years is known as the 'Great Tribulation'. Note that some modern proponents of the Tribulation saw what they felt to be flaws in Darby's scheme and delayed the Rapture, either to midway through the Tribulation, or even post-tribulation.
