The 'Tribulation' is a theological invention of John Nelson Darby, founder of the Plymouth Brethren, in the nineteenth century. The Great Tribulation is the last half of Darby's seven-year Tribulation period, three and one-half years in length. Although few people belong the the Plymouth Brethren Church, many Protestants do believe in its founder's most enduring theological creation, the Rapture. This has helped popularise the fictional book series, Left Behind. .
Barbara R. Rossing (The Rapture Exposed) says that according to one critic, the Rapture and the Tribulation had their origins with a young girl's vision. In 1830, fifteen-year-old Margaret MacDonald attended a healing service, where she was said to have seen a vision of a two-stage return of Jesus Christ. The story of her vision was adopted and amplified by Darby. .
The belief that Jesus will come again was not new, and Christians have always taught that Jesus will return to earth and that believers should live in anticipation of his second coming. Darby's new teaching was that Christ would return twice, first in secret to "Rapture" his church out of the world and up to heaven, then a second time after seven years of global tribulation for non-believers, to establish a Jerusalem-based kingdom on earth. However, some modern proponents of the Tribulation saw what they felt to be flaws in Darby's scheme and delayed the Rapture, either to midway through the Tribulation, or even post-tribulation. In Darby's original scheme, believers would not go through the tribulation, but in the post-tribulation scenario, they would experience the entire tribulation period, including the 'Great Tribulation'. .
It is one thing to predict the tribulation or the great tribulation, but it is an entirely different thing to demonstrate that it will ever happen. The Tribulation has no genuine biblical support, so there is no good reason to believe there will ever be the Tribulation taught by Darby, or a Great Tribulation. They make good reading in a fiction series, but should otherwise enjoy the same obscurity that John Nelson Darby now does.

God's followers will not go through tribulation, but the non-believers will. God would never put his children through that and you're only God's child if you believe in him and trust him with all your heart.

Answer:The "Great" Tribulation, as Jesus refers to it in Matthew 24 will be led by two men the Bible calls the "Beast" and "the False Prophet." These men are prophesied in Revelation to rule for 3 1/2 years:"...they (the world) worshipped the Dragon (Satan) which gave power unto the Beast... and there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue FORTY AND TWO MONTHS (3 1/2 years)." The Great Tribulation is still in our future, since the world has never seen days that terrible yet.Also Jesus says at verses 29 and 30, "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory..." Those words of Jesus have not yet been fullfilled. So this Great Tribulation is still in the future. Jesus says that "on account of the chosen ones, those days would be cut short." It is appearant that the "chosen ones" would be present to be affected by the tribulation. So yes, Christians will go through the Great Tribulation.

There are several views on this. They can be roughly divided into "Pre-Trib" which believes they won't, "Post-Trib" which believes they will, and "Mid-Trib" which believes they'll go through part of it but not all of it. There's also a (joking) viewpoint called "Pan-Trib" which has no particular view in the matter, but believes it will all pan out in the end. Despite being a joke, it's probably the most sensible.
