It's a good idea that the mother keeps nursing her young pups until the pups are 6 to 8 weeks old. This way puppies will get a good start on life.

What can happen mom shun puppy before 6 weeks?

Your pup can be weaned as young as 4 weeks of age. Ideally the pup should remain with his or her Mom up to 8 week of age but if she is ignoring the pup, then wean the pup. Do not let the pup nurse off of its Mother, so her milk can dry up. Feed the pup a good name brand dry puppy food. Soften it at first with warm water, feed 2-3 times a day, all that it can eat within about 10 minutes, pick up any left over food. As the pup gets older, feed it the dry puppy food without it being softened with water.

How do you keep a puppy from nursing He continuously tries to nurse from her and bites her causing her to bleed?

If the puppy is old enough to be weaned, then separate the mother from the pup. Put them in separate rooms until her milk dries up. At the same time, make sure the pup can eat. Start with adding warm water to food to make a mash. You may have to hand feed until the pup catches on that this food tastes good---which doesn't take long (a few tastes). If your pup is too young to be weaned, take the mom to a vet for a check and switch the pup to bottle feeding.

How does a puppy find its moms nipple?

It wiggles around until it hits the female's belly, then the pup follows the mom's silhouette until they bump into a nipple. Sometimes the female needs to pick up the puppy and redirect it. Active and responsible breeders may help by also redirecting the pup.
