I'm a 38 yr. old woman who's been on Stratterra for 5 weeks. My first 7 days I couldn't eat a thing. After my dosage was upped to 40mg, 65 mg & 80 mg. I have had no problem eating when I want to, but I could easily skip lunch every day and have no desire to snack. I eat 3 meals a day and I don't say no to dessert if I'm not too full from dinner.

I have to make a point to eat, but I can eat. I was already slender before Stratterra and I don't want to loose another pound and I haven't.

Other sites have shown people's side effect going away after one to two months.

Will the government pay for Straterra?

YES, MY CHILD IS ON STRATERRA AND MEDICAID PAYS FOR IT AS LONG AS THE DOCTOR GIVES AN APPROVAL FOR IT. My daughter is on the CHIP plan, and I pay $5.00 for name brand meds. She recently started taking Straterra. I did see on the pharmacy slip that the insurance pays over $80.00 for each prescription.

How long should you not eat for?

If your question is referring to eating in relation to taking medication for ADHD, the answer is never go without eating. It is best to eat a large meal with the medication. After taking the medication the patient may have little to no appetite. If you can get the patient to at least drink milk or a "liquid meal" sold in cans, anything will help. Most people worry about children's growth while taking meds for ADHD and that is because usually it causes a loss of appetite and/or a stomachache. This will usually result in a slowing of growth and weight gain. However, research has shown that by the child's 18th birthday, he or she will be the height and weight they were originally supposed to be. It does not cause any long term affects on growth.

Once off Prednisone will you go back to how you were before you began taking Prednisone?

Generally, after taking prednisone for a short while, the condition will be resolved. Your appetite will return to normal and you won't be eating everything in sight and retaining water from eating salt. If prednisone is used for long term permanent conditions, then after a while, the effects of your condition will reappear. Depends on the disease, really and also what you mean by going "back to how you were before you began taking prednisone." If you mean, "are there permanent side effects from taking prednisone?" the answer is: long term usage and frequent short term usage of steroids will affect your bones...makes them brittle, but if you are healthy you will rebuild your bone mass. If you have Addison's disease and you go off the medication, you will have a return of symptoms.

Are the long-term affects of Strattera on children completely understood?

I have done considerable research about Strattera. There is no long term research abailable since the drug is relatively new on the market. From personal experience with my daughter, her moods swings and irritability became progressively worse the longer she was on the drug. She had been taking it for about a year. Withdrawal from Strattera put her in the hospital since her emotions were totally out of control. If you see negative side effects, please have your physician report them to the FDA and best of luck to you. I have an 8 year boy who has been taking Strattera for aprox. 6 months. I do not know the long term side affects of the drug, however, I find it very helpful in conjunction with the stimulant drug, medidate. It definitely helps him to get to sleep easier than taking a stimulant medication alone. I take things one day at a time... My son has been on Straterra for about a year now. My wife and I put him on it at the suggestion of his pediatrician. It worked for a while at 10 mg, then the pediatrician suggested us upping the dose to 40 mg since his weight has increased. It apparently helps him focus much better, but I believe his behavior off Straterra now (when we try to take him off of it) is worse than it ever was before we began taking Straterra. We've tried to take him off the meds, but he begins bouncing off the walls so to speak and is totally out of control even after three or four days of being off the meds.

How long does withdrawal bleeding last when you stop taking the pill?

really it all depends on your body. I was on it for a while and stopped taking them, my period was actually like a normal cycle.
