First class was for aristocracy (or people who had inherited o sort of royal status such as countesses and counts); Second Class was for working people such as clerks, minors, and teachers; Third class was for the people who wanted to emigrate to America for a better life. The aristocrats paid for the type of quarters they wanted but a whole family could board on one ticket that may have only cost £260 depending on the size of the quarters.
