You usually have to be a high level member of one of the competing clubs, work for a corporate sponsor of the AFL or one of its member clubs, win them in radio and TV contests, buy a package deal that includes tickets.
There are numerous popular sports in Australia. Cricket, Soccer, AFL, Touch, Netball, Basketball - they are probably equal in popularity. There is no known website that lists all the clubs for all the sports.

No ... sorry. There is no AFL Alabama side in 2011 in Australian football. In fact, there is no Alabama club for any major sports competition at all within all of Australia. You need to go to 'the States' to find major Alabama clubs.
The competition began as the VFL (Victorian Football League) in 1897.However, in 1990, its name was changed to the AFL (Australian Football League), since other, interstate clubs had also joined the newly-formed, national league. Although it was always running VFL Grand Finals prior to this change, it has also continued to run them as AFL Grand Finals ever since its name change.
At the moment, there is only Sydney. But soon there will also be a Greater Western Sydney team in the AFL.
