Morocco is similar to its neighbouring countries in many ways. If the territory of Western Sahara is included as part of Morocco, the nation has three bordering countries: Algeria, Mauritania, and Spain (via small enclaves on the African coast). Algeria and Mauritania, unlike Spain, are African, Saharan, Arabic-speaking nations with a majority of the population practicing Islam. Morocco and Spain are both developed nations with a rich Arabic and Berber history, and have shared a trade route through the Mediterranean for years.
