There is no longer any Aztec people in Mexico, as 'Aztec' is the definition of a culture and society that was destroyed by Spanish conquistadors almost 500 years ago.
What remains is the genes of the Aztec people, who became a large portion of today's Mexicans, (close to 80%) thanks to interracial marriages with the Spanish conquerors. Also many indigenous people with the same ethnic group remain, known as the Nahua. There are over 2.5 million of them, but they are certainly not Aztecs.
