I would recommend 20 Spell and Trap Cards, and 20 monster cards, or if not, you can have any amount of Spell Cards, as long as there are 40 or under, because 40 cards are the number of an official deck
You can have any number of spell cards in a deck.
Since the maximum deck size is 60, you may have 60 Field Spell Cards in your deck if you really wanted to. I wouldn't rate its chances in a tournament though.

there are 60 cards in a Pokemon deck and there are only supposed to be 60 cards in a deck. if you buy a theme deck, then you will get 60 cards in the deck and a Pokemon card pack that contains 11 cards, so you basically get 71 cards in all.

for a standard deck 50% Monster 25% Spell 25% Trap for a life shaver deck 60% Spell 10% Trap 30% Effect monsters for a beatdown deck 60% High ATK monsters 10% Trap 30% Spell and I recommend keeping to 40 cards but don't go to a point where you are LOOKING for cards to put in your deck.
