4,000

Only 177 French soldiers took part in the D Day landings so I am not sure where 4,000 comes from, although many French citizens did die.

British & Canadian soldiers numbered over 80,000, U.S over 70,000. French.....177.

Around 350,000 soldiers died which is incredible considering the brevity of the time France was in active war.

(You should note however that the French people were actually very brave during the war and as a result around 500,000 citizens died during it! Around 10% of the French adult population was in the resistance despite the Germans bullying the French people to not help!)

The Battle of France lasted 1 month, from may to June 1940

Actually, the military casualties were not important compared to the forces in presence (3 500 000 men on each side)

Concerning only the french troops

about 100 000 killed

123 000 wounded

and 2 000 000 were made prisonners

To those you must add the British, Belgian, polish and Dutch for total of about 20 000 killed.

Without forgetting the 50 000 Germans soldiers who died during the invasion of France.

And of course, you must add the civilian casualties (estimated to 100 000 french)
