Human rights and fundamental rights are closely related but not exactly the same. Human rights are universal rights that are inherent to all individuals by virtue of being human, whereas fundamental rights are specific rights guaranteed by laws or constitutions of a particular country. While fundamental rights may encompass some human rights, human rights are broader in scope and not limited by national borders or legal systems.
There exist many differences. The most important being that the fundamental rights can be enforced by a court of law (against the state), while Directive Principles are not. Fundamental rights are inalienabe rights, whereas Directive Principles are aimed at securing welfare, which are more like constitutional guidelines.

The best protection for fundamental rights is a determination on the part of ordinary citizens to uphold them and to respect the constitution. It can't be left to the courts alone. Of course, they'll have to take away the right to bear arms first. When they do, it's all over. The first ten amendments protects our fundamental rights. These first ten amendments, called the Bill of Rights, protects the US citizens from having too much government. Therefore the Bill of Rights protects our fundamental rights.
