No one was allowed to enter the structure of the Tabernacle (mishkan) itself, other than kohanim while performing their duties such as the incense, lighting the menorah etc. But the courtyard of the tabernacle was accessible to the Israelites; and they filled it during the mornings of the three festivals when they were commanded to come (Deuteronomy ch.16).

The courtyard, which was 50 x 100 cubits (~1250 sq. meters) could ostensibly hold several thousand people. But God did a miracle for them, and all 600,000 Israelites entered the courtyard - and no one felt crowded (Talmud, Yoma 21a).

Why did many Jews become Zionists?

Because, when Germany wanted to kill all the Jews they could get their hands on, (aka "The Final Solution"), most countries shut their doors and would not let the Jews enter their nation, including the USA which only took about 1000 Jews to Fort Oswego NY. Since the world turned their backs on the Jews in their time of need, and 6 million were murdered, many wanted their old homeland in Israel open to them for the first time in 2000 years since the Romans exiled them from their land.

For Jews, all Jews had to wear armbands on their clothes. Jews could not ride bikes or drive cars. Jews were not allowed in certain stores. Many people called Jews, "Dirty Jews". Jews did not have many rights at all. If they disobeyed the rules, almost all of the time you will have a death penalty if you were at a concentration camp.
