A UFO sighting occurs any time someone sees a flying object and fails to identify it, as such, the number of UFO sightings is staggering. Most UFO sightings can be easily turned into IFO (identified flying object) sightings with a little extra observation and a little less assumption. Not being able to identify every flying object you see is perfectly reasonable--believing that your lack of identification is evidence of a world-wide government conspiracy or a close encounter with intelligent alien life is absurd.
