Unfortunately, all veterans of the US Civil War are dead.
The VA (Veterans Administration) has enlarged it's medical programs to administer better services to US veterans.
"Veterans" is a term used to describe anyone who has ever Honorably served in the Armed Forces
lol gulf war
AnswerAccording to the US Census Bureau, of the 2.8 million Vietnam veterans who served in country Vietnam, there are 1,027,000 alive as of the 2000 census. It is interesting to note that another 15 million claim to be Vietnam veterans.
16 million
The first gulf war was fought in 1990-1991. A total of 700,000 US soldiers participated in 'Operation Desert Storm'. Considering the fact that only 294 US soldiers died during the conflict and the average life expectancy in USA is 78 years , it can be safely said that a majority of Iraq War veterans are still alive. However, there exists no database to indicate the exact number of surviving veterans of Iraq war.
I cannot speak as to all the countries involved, only about the US. Unlike Vietnam or the current war in Iraq, the Persian Gulf War was a short and glorious war which achieved its objective. The veterans received a heroes' welcome, but there were problems with those suffering from medical problems of "Gulf War Syndrome" in getting the help they needed according to the news media. Also, I have heard of some who wanted to remain in uniform after the war, but they were discharged and told to walk as the US military resumed the downsizing it began following the end of the Cold War. I also heard about one veteran who came through the war unscathed but was murdered in his own neighborhood after he arrived home. The experience was certainly different for everyone, but the Persian Gulf War veterans I have spoken with seemed to have adjusted much better than the Vietnam veterans.
why was the gulf war a success and why was it not
Counting Battle Deaths (KIA) only, the US in "major conflicts" since fighting for Independence and not including the ongoing campaigns in the Second Persian Gulf War sustained the following deaths: * Revolutionary War - 4,435, * War of 1812 - 2,260, * Mexican War - 1,733, * US Civil War - 140,414, * Spanish American War - 385. * WWI - 53,513, * WWII - 292,131, * Korean War - 33,650, * Vietnam War - 33,472, and the * First Persian Gulf War - 148.
The US did win the first Gulf war(1991) however the snd gulf war (2003) was a collosal failure in its result.
There are US veterans from: 1. Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) 2. Operation Desert Storm (Jan-Feb 1991) 3. Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003- )
