204 children died
AnswerChildren were used in coal mines to dig ahead of the main miners and help clear out paths. Due to their smaller body size, kids could fit through spaces no adult man could. This led to rough conditions on the kids and the risk of cave ins and explosive gas was dangerous.
In the 1800s, there were many things to do in mines, for people of all ages. Trappers were little kids who opened and closed trapdoors, to let the wagons of coal pass by on the underground tracks. Drawers pushed and pulled loaded wagons of coals towards the lifts that take them upto the surface. Bearers were young girls who took sacks of coal away from the coalface, and loaded the coal wagons. Diggers were people who dug for coal. Hope I helped :) Source(s): My history textbook (Grade/Year 7)
well in Victorian times child labor was bad, kids died in factories, lost limbs, and hair. kids chose working over education b/c they thought they would rather get money then get nothin. also the conditions in the factories and mines were taribble air pollution, oil, soot yah i would say it is harsh.
i know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did. Infact, they had really terrible jobs, such as climbing up the chimneys of peoples houses, and cleaning out all the soot from there, or having to work in factories where they were made to work all day, and if they were feeling sick, then tough! You would even get blood on your hands, that's how terrible the conditions were. Some children even had to work down the mines, and carry a load of coal down there! Children sometimes died from these conditions, and even if they were lucky to survive, they would die pretty soon!
Victorian children worked in factories, and girls who were 14 years + worked as a maids. many kids worked in mines as well. kids who were orphans, or homeless went to live in the care home. kids that time said " they would rather go jail then the work house". if you want more information, why not read Jim jarvis book! it is the best! it will answer all Victorian childrens life and jobs questions.

Kids get coal on st nick's day because some times they say that Santa clause gives coal to kids that are bad or that are not listening to their parents. but also it is possible that the parents give them coal because maybe they are doing bad in school or they are just bad. well that's why kids get coal on st nick's day
