The rule of thumb is 5 to 1. It takes approximately 5 men to support 1 fighting man (Feeding him, paying him/administration, patching him up (medical), supplying him, and transporting him). At the height of the war there were over 500,000 US servicemen in South Vietnam (RVN); on the average there were 25,000 men in the field on any given day. With a rotation (stand down) of those 25,000 men its estimated 100,000 GIs were in the field (combat) out of the 500,000 men in country.
The motto of Combat Vets Motorcycle Association is 'Vets Helping Vets'.

Assuming an 18-year old was in Vietnam in April, 1973 when the last U.S. combat forces left Vietnam, he might live to be 90 years old in 2045. Most Vietnam vets have turned 65, or will turn 65 in the next five years.
Primarily senior NCO's and Officers were Viet War vets, such as General's Schwarzkopf and Powell (Americal Division, Vietnam), etc. Possibly 1,000 men were Viet War vets.
