Best Answer

a 3 phase 415 volts 50 HZ 15 HP motor draws:

1. On no load 3.6 amp after a starting kick of around 18AMP

2. On a full load : a starting kick of 108 amp for few seconds and then18.3 amp.

3. On rated load(this means the motor is selected such that the load is 80% of the motor capacity) 14.64 amp with a starting kick of 88Amp.

It's quite impossible to answer your question, without knowing:

a. whether it's a.c. (single-phase or three-phase?) or d.c.

b. what its rated voltage is.

c. what its efficiency is.

To answer this question a voltage should be stated. Three phase motor, 230 volt 5.2 amps, 460 volt 2.6 amps, 575 volt 2.1. Single phase motor, 115 volt 20 amps, 230 volt 10 amps. These are nominal amperages from the code book. For accurate calculations the amperage should be taken from the motors name plate.

How amperes does a1.5hp 115volt single phase motor draw assuming 90percentefficiency and 88percen power factor?

1.5hp is 1118W W = VI You should be able to get the answer from that easily enough.............................

What size breaker is needed for feeding 10 kva transformer at 460 v single phase?

One horsepower (electric motor) is 746 watts, so ten horsepower is 7460 watts. Divide that by a power factor (assumed) of 0.8 and you get 9325 volt-amps. Divide that by a voltage (again, assumed) of 240 and you get 39 amperes. For calculation purposes the electrical code book states that a 10 horsepower motor at 240 volts will draw 50 amps. The motor's nameplate amperage that is driving the rotary phase converter should all ways be used first. The electrical code requires a breaker for a motor to be 250% of the motor's operating full load current. 250% of 39 amperes is 97 amperes. I would use a 100 ampere breaker for a 10 horsepower motor. If the motor rating is used from the code book values, then 50 x 250% would equal 125 amps and that is the size of the breaker that must be used. This is the reason that the motor's exact name plate amperage rating should be used. In the long run feeder wire costs could make a saving in the overall projected costs.
