"Myriads," which means at least millions or more, but one third of the angels followed Lucifer and became fallen angels or demons or devils. Those that stayed with God are the holy (separated to God) angels, who serve Him without waver.

A:The Book of Jubilees specified that nine tenths of the angels fell while one part remained sinless and loyal to God. Medieval writers later reversed the proportions, so that only one tenth of the angels fell with Satan.

Answer:

Among the symbols that make up the "parable" that is the book of Revelation... "stars" are revealed to represent "angels":

"Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; the mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in My right hand... The seven STARS are the ANGELS of the seven churches..." (Rev.1:19-20).

Armed with this biblical "revelation" of symbolic meaning... the reader is informed in the inset 12th chapter of Revelation, that provides an overview of the "Dragon's" [Satan; Rev.12:9] historical role in how things have played out since the beginning:

"...behold a great red Dragon... And his tail drew the THIRD PART OF THE STARS OF HEAVEN, and did cast them to the earth..." (Rev.12:3-4).

The Bible reveals that Satan coerced a "full THIRD of God's created angels" into his rebellion and subsequent "war in heaven" [verse 7] against God's universal throne and Government.

"How thou art fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground... For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the STARS of God... I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High." (Isa.14:12-14)

According to the biblical account, then... a full THIRD of God's angels were "swept up" by Satan in his rebellion, defeated and cast out of heaven, back down to the earth, where they have been restrained, not allowed to leave the earth's confines... and await Judgment Day.

"...neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great Dragon was cast out... into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Rev.12:8-9)

"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell [tartaroo; a spiritual condition of confinement], and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto Judgment..." (II Peter 2:4)

"...the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the Judgment of the Great Day." (Jude 1:6)

The Bible tells us in general terms that God created: "...an INNUMERABLE COMPANY OF ANGELS..." (Heb.12:22) !!!

This passage just speaks of the "stars of God" who DIDN'T REBEL in the beginning, but which are True and Loyal "ministering spirits" of God [see Heb.1:14].

That is... as far as human concept goes -- GOD CREATED TOO MANY ANGELS TO COUNT!

"...'Look up at the heavens and count the stars -- if indeed you can count them.'..." (Gen.15:5 NIV).

Which means that one-third of an "innumerable company of angels" is A LOT OF ANGELS THAT SINNED and were cast down to earth!

In biblical symbolism, angels are called "stars." In John's vision of Jesus Christ in Revelation 1, John tells us:

"He held SEVEN STARS in His right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came out of His mouth..." (Rev.1:16 NLT New Living Translation)

At the end of the chapter Jesus interprets: "This is the meaning of the SEVEN STARS you saw in My right hand... The SEVEN STARS are the ANGELS of the Seven Churches..." (verse 20).

Regarding angels and their relationship to mankind... the Bible reveals:

"...angels are only servants. THEY ARE SPIRITSsent from God TO CARE FOR THOSE WHO WILL RECEIVE SALVATION." (Heb.1:14 NLT)

So, how many PEOPLE does the Bible reveal who shall RECEIVE SALVATION? God tells Abraham:

" '...you will have a son of your own TO INHERIT EVERYTHING I AM GIVING YOU.' Then the LORD brought Abram outside beneath the night sky and told him, 'Look up into the heavens and COUNT THE STARS IF YOU CAN. YOUR DESCENDANTS [those to whom God promises Salvation] will be like that - TOO MANY TO COUNT! '" (Gen.15:4-5 NLT)

So, the biblical evidence is clear. There are as many angels as there are [or shall be] CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM TO RECEIVE SALVATION [see Gal.3:7]! And how many is that? As many as there are STARS in the sky!

Jesus' comparison of "angels" to "stars" is no accident. Like the number of those who shall receive Salvation by God... as many as the stars of heaven; which is TOO MANY TO COUNT -- so are there the SAME NUMBER OF ANGELS to SERVE and TAKE CARE OF THEM!

And that is -- TOO MANY TO COUNT!

All the Bible tells us about the actual number of angels who followed Satan [the Dragon] in his rebellion against God's Government, is that it was ONE-THIRD of the total number of God's created angels:

"His tail dragged down ONE-THIRD OF THE STARS, which he threw to the earth..." (Rev.12:4 NLT)

Therefore, the formula to answer the question is: "Look up into the night sky, count all the stars [if you can]; divide that number by three, and subtract that number from the total number of stars in the sky."

That will be your answer.

The Book of Jubilees specified that nine tenths of the angels fell while one part remained sinless and loyal to God, although this does not tell us the actual numbers involved. Medieval writers later reversed these proportions, saying that only one tenth of the angels fell and all the others remained sinless and loyal to God.

What we see there is speculation, with the numbers based on the theological needs of the times - there is no reason to believe this is anything more than a myth. It is based on Isaiah chapter 14, a passage that refers to the king of Babylon, who laid the nations low. Isaiah talks of the king's pomp and splendour, how he had ruled the nations in anger, and his fate after his overthrow by the king of Persia. He had compared himself to the Morning Star and was thus derisorily called 'Lucifer' (lucem ferre, which mean 'light-bearer', a name for the dawn appearance of the planet Venus) and had thought that he would ascend into heaven and sit among the stars, but was now himself persecuted. This text was misunderstood by early Christian scholars and even some Jewish scholars of the period, with both assuming that it referred to Satan being cast down from heaven.

How many rebellious angels did God cast out of heaven?

God only cast out one angel which was Satan himself, but at that time he was called Lucifer. Lucifer was known as the angel of worship and praise in heaven. But soon he became so proud and arrogant that he wanted to take the place of God himself. That is the reason he was cast out of heaven and also a third of the angels followed him out of ignorance but they cast themselves out of heaven!!!! Actually, Bible scholars agree that a third of the angels were cast out with Satan: "And another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seven diadems.4And his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven, and threw them to the earth . . . " (Rev. 12:3-4). "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him," (Rev. 12:9). Angels were referred to as the stars of heaven, and Satan is often referred to as the morning star because it shines brighter than all the other stars, but disappears at night.

How many angels' names are recorded in the Bible?

The names of three angels are known:-MichaelGabrielLucifer(Satan was the archangel Lucifer before his rebellion and fall.)

Were any archangels cast from heaven or did they just leave or what?

Only 3 angels are mentioned by name in the Scripture, with only Michael specifically called an archangel but most agree Gabriel is also in this category along with the once Lucifer now Satan. You are apparently speaking of the once Archangel Lucifer in your question here. There are many thoughts on this topic. The term 'Lucifer' is the Latin of the Hebrew word 'Heylel.' Commonly Heylel is translated as 'day or morning star' in most translations and commonly refers to the angels (see Job 38:4, 6-7). However, the King James and New King James Versions translate this term as Lucifer in some verses. The most often used verses to make the association of Lucifer on the throne of Earth with about 1/3 of God's angels until he sins and attempts to usurp the Throne of God is Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:12-17. A parallel Scripture about this event seems to be Revelation 12:9 and Jesus' statement in Luke 10:18.

What Bible verse first talk about Satan's defeat?

In the book of Revelation written by John. Lucifer (in translation his name means of the light) and his army of angels were defeated by Michael and cast down to the earth. Although many believe that the devil(Lucifer) was cast into hell,he is actually on the earth. Read the book of Job for confirmation. He will not be cast into the lake of fire until after the final battle(Revelation)

Is lucifer an archangel?

Short answer: yes. Lucifer was originally the most powerful archangel of all but he rebelled and his name was changed to Satan. Long answer: The word lucifer is not a name of any evil entity. It simply means bright light, or an ancient name of planet Venus. The mix up is from the book of Isaiah regarding a prophecy toward a king of Babylon where the writer calls the king a bright shining light( lucifer). Ancient kings were often thought of to be gods. Their people's attitudes were: my god can beat up your god. This particular Babylonian god-king apparently rose himself above the Hebrew people's God. Isaiah warned that such nonsense would not be tolerated by God- that the Babylonian king along with his kingdom would be toppled by the Hebrew's true God.
