This is a very open question - it all depends on how big is the zoo?
There are very small inner city zoos and extremely large open plain zoos.
Some have cages of monkeys/birds/snakes OR tanks of fish/seals/dolphins.
Others are more like museums with paintings and bones and the like.
All consisting of numerous species and subspecies of animals.
I'm sure any of your local zoos would be more than willing and proud to tell you
how many animals are in their zoo?!
there are a lot of animls in zoos and i think that they should be let go because the dont deserve to be there, and should be in the wild, but that could make them instinct. anyway there are 6,475,893,466 animals currently in zoos today (17 september 2013) but it will probably continue rising untill there are no more animals left in the wild. by the way i am avalible so call me 8552354. see you soon.
There are 2,300.
in millions!~

Yes! Zoos are more for people than animals. The animals are kept on display so the kids can learn more about them.
The word zoo is defined as a park or an institution where animals are kept, studied, bred and exhibited for public viewing. You can have as many kinds of zoos as animals. Zoo's can contain just mammals, fish, reptiles, domestic, wild, and the list goes on.
Animals that are in zoos don't belong cooped up like they are in zoos. The wildlife preserves are more natural and they are easier for the animals.
They are bad because many animals are kept alone and suffer from boredom. Social animals should be kept in groups so their is as natural as possible.
used to be "cages" now it's "enclosures"
Animals should be kept in zoos, because they provide educational help for kids to learn about animals, without the risk of injury to themselves or the animals. Also some animals are endangered and are better off kept in zoos with a safe, protected environment with out being hurt by their predators.
because animals wont grow in there natural habitats
