The German Empire was succeeded by the Weimar Republic after WW I. The Weimar Republic was followed by the Third Reich (Nazi Germany) which fought WW II. At the end of WW II, Germany lost much territory and was divided into West Germany and East Germany. The two parts were reunited as the Federal Republic of Germany in 1990.
