The Civil War freed the slaves ended slavery in the US. Many blacks left the South and moved to Northern cities.
Depends on the year. But many African Americans got to the north by boat or they were run away slaves. When the slaves were freed many Blacks went North because people in the south were still very rude to them because of there color.
Many blacks did fight in the south but not as much as blacks in the north. Blacks in the south that fought were either free land owners and were fighting to keep their land, or they were slaves of owners who were drafted in the war and they fought alongside their owners.

Prejudice and racism existed beyond the Civil War. Loopholes in national, state and city laws allowed for discrimination against blacks. The North was more tolerant of blacks, so many left for job opportunities and a better life.

Copperheads were a minority of Ohioans against the American Civil War.. Many had migrated from slave owning states and still had family involved in slavery. They did not want black slaves freed because they did not want to have to compete with newly freed blacks for jobs.
