In most cases the thermostat housing has four retaining bolts. The exact number of retaining bolts is dependent upon the year, make, and model of the engine.

Their are 2 main bolts that hold on a thermostat housing for an 1987 jeep cheorkee pioneer!!
The 1995 Toyota Tacoma thermostat housing torque specification is 40 pounds. The amount of torque on the thermostat housing bolts is not that important. You basically do not want to break the thermostat housing bolts.
There are 2 bolts
Where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine you will find the thermostat housing. Under that housing is the thermostat. Usually has 2 bolts holding it on.Where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine you will find the thermostat housing. Under that housing is the thermostat. Usually has 2 bolts holding it on.
top hose from radiator will travel to the thermostat housing. thermostat is in this housing. normally has 3 bolts to remove the housing
The upper radiator hose goes to the thermostat housing. There should be two bolts holding the housing on. (possibly three) Remove those bolts and pull the housing up. The thermostat is under there.
Remove the 2 bolts at the thermostat housing. The upper hose goes to the thermostat housing.
The old thermostat will simply lift out. Drop in the new thermostat. Put a new gasket on the thermostat housing. Secure the thermostat housing with the retaining bolts.
Drain the radiator. Remove the upper radiator hose at the engine. Remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing. Remove the housing and the thermostat. Clean both surfaces and install the thermostat and gasket. Install the housing, bolts, the hose and refill the radiator.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator back to the engine. The hose is hooked to the thermostat housing on the engine side. There should be two bolts holding the housing to the engine. Remove these bolts and lift the housing. There you will see the thermostat.
Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. Where it goes into the engine, there will be 2 bolts. These bolts are on the thermostat housing. Remove the upper radiator hose from the housing. Then remove both bolts, and pull out the housing, your thermostat will be in there. It sits freely in the housing, so it might fall out. (You may have to remove 2 nuts that hold the dipstick on to get to the bolts. The nuts are right on the bolts themselves)
