We were told by a worker at the Melbourne zoo that there are only 3 left in the world (including the one there). That seems hard to believe and any more information would be great. Wiki indicates there are a few in a few small countries.

i know for a fact that up in Alberta there are 841 but other than that i an't find any other info sorry The worldwide population is over 300000.

well there are just over 200,000 brown bears left in the world. Bears are also very hard to keep in capitivity. So I would guess not very many, maybe a couple hundred.
