The flood in Tewkesbury in 2007 had significant effects on the town. Homes and businesses were extensively damaged, residents had to be evacuated, and there was a disruption of essential services such as water and power supply. The flood also had a negative impact on the local economy, with businesses suffering losses and ongoing recovery efforts.
There are floods in Tewkesbury every winter, though seldom as bad as the flood of Summer 2007, in July.
God. I presume you mean Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, UK. The Rivers Severn and Avon meet at Tewkesbury, and the whole area is subject to floods every Winter, in which a few houses in Tewkesbury and elsewhere get flooded. The flood of July 2007 was in Summer, but followed a huge burst of rain in the upper Severn, which you could call an Act of God, others might say that it is just one manifestation of increasingly stormy weather patterns due to global warming. That flood of 2007 was execptionally high, thankfully the district seldom floods so high.
There does not seem to be an exact number. There were several different groups that sent boats out. The closest guess (and just a guess) is 1,400.
Because of the global warming weathers were changing and this caused storms and a burst of rain drop into the river severn. That is why Tewksbury had a flood in 2007. Answer: We can not honestly say that the cause of the flood was due to global warming from a scientific perspective. We can say that if the planet does warm as some predict, that additional flooding of some low areas could occur.
Reasonable warning (at least some hours) of the likely flood gave the people of Tewkesbury time to prepare and move or sandbag as necessary, though many homes were flooded, and some people still haven't been able to move back into their homes because of damp problems. The two people in Tewkesbury died actually after the flood had somewhat subsided. They were a father and son, stalwarts of the local football club, who were trying to pump out the cellar of the club with a petrol-driven pump. They were overcome by fumes from the faulty pump. (Answer by a resident of Gloucester, near Tewkesbury)
The highest flood on the River Severn in recent times was in July 2007. It overwhelmed the waterworks in Tewkesbury, which cut off piped drinking water for 2 weeks to 340,000 people. It very nearly cut off electricity to 600,000 thousand people, the electricity station was saved by the frantic efforts of a lot of people. Some houses in Tewkesbury have only just been dried out, repaired, and re-occupied by their owners. Fortunately there were very few deaths.
The River Severn had a major flood in 2007. There were no people injured in this great flood and no property was damaged.
Because the town is situated near a couple of major bodies of water (where the Avon and Severn meet), it floods often. From wikipedia The area around Tewkesbury is frequently affected by flooding. In general such flooding causes little damage to property as the town is surrounded by large areas of floodplain which restrict urban development and the ability for the town to spread. However, extreme flooding events have caused damage to property and affected transport links, the most significant events occurring in 1947,[4] 1960[5] and 2007. 4. ^ The great floods of 1947, The Guardian July 25th 2007 5.
