What is the meaning of on a calendar month basis?

It means the length of time varies depending on how many days are in the particular calendar month you're talking about. If the calendar month is January, you are always talking about 31 days. If the calendar month is February, you are talking about 28 days (except in leap year when you are talking about 29 days.) Example: If you are transacting business on January 17th and are talking about 6 calendar months, you are either talking about January 1st through June 30th OR February 1st through July 31st; it must be made clear during discussions WHEN the time begins. You would NOT be talking about January 17th through July 17th.

How many US business days per month are there between January 1 to December 31 2009?

There are 52 weeks in a calendar year. Each of those 52 weeks has 5 business days, less holidays which may or may not occur on a weekday in any given year. For the average number of days, then multiply 52 by 5= 260 Business days. Subtract the basic holidays: New Years, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Christmas, President's Day and Easter (plus/minus 2 or 3 more) you get between 252-255 US Business days

How does a fiscal year differ from a calendar year?

A calendar year, by definition, starts on January 1 and ends on December 31. A fiscal year does not need to do that. Many companies, and organizations including Universities and Colleges, start their fiscal year on July 1.
